Entrecard - Is it worth it?

Unique Visitors up

Since I started using Entrecard just over a week ago, I’ve seen my daily unique visitors double to just over 100. Great? Well, not really.
Only 50 people have clicked one of my 25 1-day adverts; on average 2 clicks per advert.

Nearly all visitors are other EC users

Lots land, drop, then leave. Quite a few have commented, but how many have converted to regular readers, I don’t know.

What is EC good for?

As far as I can tell, it’s great for generating (somewhat artificial) traffic, and is great to find other similar blogs that are worth reading. I’ve stumbled across a couple that I now read and would probably never found without Entrecard.

BioTeck.net

Dragon Blogger

I am saving up to try my advert on some of the more expensive blogs, but with EC, more expensive does not mean the blog is more popular or has more visitors. There is defiantly room for improvement in the EC popularity calculation and whole system overall.

Don’t be supprised if the Entrecard widget disappears by the end of the month!

What do you think?

Is EC worth using?
Do you get many clicks from adverts?

Google PR update! - Techizr.com now PR 3

Google are currently updating the public Page Rank of websites, as usual some may go up and some down. Luckily the only way for Techizr.com to go was up, and it did; to PR 3.

I just noticed a story on digg, that Dropbox is now open to all, but what’s happening at digg is probably more interesting.

AWESOME product and awesome creators behind it and great office stuff ! Thanks ! “Love this application!”, “Great Application, can t get enough of it :D”. Most of these commenters have either recently joined digg (last few months) or have joined a few years ago and have not been very active since.

Other commenters have noticed this, and no doubt there will be a story on digg to explain it all soon, but take a look for yourself. Checkout some of the profiles below, or look for yourself.

Could it be possible there’s some foul play going on here? Or just lots of genuinely happy users wanting to support a product?

http://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/ allows you to test if a website is down, or just not working for you i.e. you have a problem with your connection.

A great domain name, and will help with those many forum posts that we all encounter, asking the exact same question.

Choosing a domain name

You can’t have a website without a (good) domain name, but all the good ones are taken? Well, almost, but thanks to Web 2.0 it’s still possible to get a nice domain name.

To get some ideas, look at the blogs/websites you read and also try some domain name generators such as

bustaname.com

Add your words and it will combine then to form a URL, the great thing about this application is that it will also display similar words if you hover over the little blue arrow.
I have found that it’s not always correct on available domains though, for example some combinations may not appear, but if you search manually you may find them.

dotomator.com

This is great for inspiration, you pick two lists of words and it will combine them for you. It’s more restrictive than bustaname, but can help you if you don’t know where to start, just select on two categories and click combine!

The same website also has a web 2.0 name generator after clicking through a few of them, it seems most (if not all the good ones) are already taken, you may still be lucky enough to find one though. It’s slightly tedious having to keep clicking, it would be great if you could ask it to generate a list of 50 domains with one click.

These generators probably won’t give you the perfect name, but they can provide you with great inspiration and ideas.
