EA are giving away the original Red Alert for free. It’s a bit of a pain to install and it’s a fairly old game but great for a bit of nostalgia.

You’ll need to burn the ISOs or get Daemon tools and mount them, then follow the instructions included in the .rar; i also had to set all .exe files in the RED ALERT directory to windows 95 compatibility mode to stop the “privileged instruction” error.

The EA site leads you into thinking you need to preorder RA3, but you don’t, all you have to do is download the 2 discs.

ZoneAlarm Forcefield is free until 6AM PST/ 2PM BST (today is 13th August), so grab a free key that’s valid for one year while the going’s good. It might be rubbish, it might be useful but who cares, it’s free.
