Youtube crashes firefox when closing a tab/window

I recently experienced this problem, that seemingly appeared from nowhere. Every time I navigated away from a youtube page, or closed a page or tab that was viewing a youtube video, Firefox would hang for a few seconds and they usually crash also.

I tried updating Flash player to version 10, but this had no effect.

Nobody seems to know how to fix this, but a workaround was posted on the mozilla forums.

Add the following to your adblock filter, which will remove the related videos, and stop the crashing.

It’s not a perfect solution, but it works for me!

Free FTP client - FireFTP

Most people probably know of FileZilla, one of the better free FTP clients. If like myself, you like to multitask and keep lots of windows in your taskbar, sometimes you just don’t want to add a new window (more clutter).

FireFTP is a Firefox addon that does pretty much everything you want but just opens as a new tab inside firefox, you can add it as a bookmark and open with one click, or even add to speedial.

It’s very fast opening (assuming you already have Firefox open) and the GUI is similar to almost every other FTP client with your local directories on the left and remote directories on the right hand side.

One thing I love about the google chrome browser is the start page (displays most visited URLs), It would be great if firefox could do the same, right?

Well it can! (almost)

Go grab the Speed Dial add-on and you’ll be able to add thumbnails & links to your favorite websites; the only real difference is that you need to manually add entries but this means it’s also much more flexible.

Firefox 3 update released (3.0.1)

Full Release notes here

Hopefully Firefox will now play nicer with Kaspersky, but the virtual keyboard still crashes it, so i’m guessing Kaspersky is still going to keep causing crashes untill the patch is released (some time this week according to the Kaspersky forums)

Useful Firefox addon - Save Link in Folder

Quickly select your favourite download locations from a drop-down menu.

This is a handy little Addon, one thing that annoys me is having to navigate folder download locations when I want to save a file, e.g. i want to save some things in a c:\download folder, some in c:\images, some on desktop, some in deep directory trees.

Save Link In Folder allows you to create menu shortcuts, so you can just select (for example) images from your download dialog, and the file will automatically be saved in C:\Documents and Settings\yourname\location\of\your\images\folder or whatever you specify.

I hardly ever use the menubar in Firefox since it’s possible to bookmark from the URL bar, so why do I need the menubar wasting 21 pixels?

Hide Menubar can save those precious pixels!

After

Firefox Hidemenubar

The best bit is, If you ever need the menubar, just hit the ALT key and it will reveal it.
